But when the head of the family meets his untimely demise, the rest of the family breaks down, collapsing like a group of puppets with no one to hold their strings. Slowly, however, they recognise that they have to mourn and let go of their loss and re-identify themselves, so that they can settle into a new life.

It is the beginning of the 1990s. Milán, a young man in his twenties, refugee of the Yugoslavian War, works the night shift with the Budapest ambulance. His colleagues, the doctor and the driver, do business with corpses and include Milán in this illegal euthanasia, receiving a premium from an undertaker after each body. Milán needs the money to free his fiancé trapped in the Sarajevo blockade. He becomes a practiced paramedic while acquainting himself with the many faces of death and crime. Finally, he has no other choice than to use the money from the corpse-business to return to Sarajevo and reunite with his beloved.
